Why FixLume exists, what we publish and what readers should expect from our research-based guides.
FixLume is an independent home-improvement information site focused on project planning, flooring, painting, homeowner tools and preventive maintenance. Our purpose is narrow: help readers make better decisions before they buy materials, remove finishes or commit to an irreversible repair.
What makes a FixLume guide different
We prefer worked examples over vague advice. When a flooring article discusses waste, it shows the area calculation and carton rounding. When a painting article discusses quantity, it shows the room dimensions, openings, coats and coverage assumption. When the answer depends on a product, we tell readers to check the actual product instructions instead of pretending one generic rule fits every system.
Research-based content
Most FixLume articles are desk-researched explanatory guides. They are not presented as personal product tests. We do not write “we tested” unless genuine testing took place and can be described. We also do not create fictional tradespeople, licenses, certifications or customer stories to manufacture authority.
Examples are labeled as examples
Worked budgets, room dimensions and prices are illustrative unless a guide says otherwise. They are there to demonstrate the calculation method. Readers should replace them with their own measurements, local prices and product data.
